Ready for 2026?

The new fan regulation from the Ecodesign Directive:
Challenges and solutions.

Future-proof with ebm‑papst

The minimum efficiency requirements for fans, which have been laid down in the Fan Regulation of the Ecodesign Directive (ErP2015) since 2015, will be tightened in 2026.

The Fan Regulation, which is derived from the Ecodesign Directive, was revised in 2024 and published under number 2024/1834. This new version of the Fan Regulation is known as ErP2026. As part of this, the minimum requirements for fan efficiency that have been in force since 2015 will be tightened, with effect from 2026 and 2027 onwards.

The overall system consisting of the rotor, motor, and stator is measured, and if these components are purchased from different providers, the equipment manufacturer itself has to provide proof of EC conformity.

Save on time-consuming measurements and unnecessary paperwork! As a leading manufacturer, ebm‑papst offers complete fans from a single source – to be installed right away in your application. We therefore assume responsibility for the correctness of the efficiency information and also provide you with the required EC declaration of conformity.

Key questions and answers about the Ecodesign Directive and the new fan regulation

To help achieve the EU's climate targets. The Fan Regulation from the Ecodesign Directive aims to reduce the impact of our actions on the environment.

The Ecodesign Directive deals with a large number of products that use energy in some way. This means that components such as fans, motors or pumps, as well as entire devices such as ventilation and air conditioners, are also subject to minimum efficiency requirements.

Fans of all types (axial fans, centrifugal fans with forward-curved and backward-curved blades, tangential blowers and diagonal fans) with a power consumption between 0.125 kW and 500 kW are affected. This applies to fans that are operated as "stand-alone" devices or "embedded fans" that are integrated as a component in a device or system.

Yes. The regulation does not cover fans for kitchen exhaust hoods with an output of less than 280 watts or fans in dryers.

Does your ebm‑papst product meet the ErP 2015 efficiency requirements?

The data provided is currently still based on Directive EU 327/2011 (ErP2015).
We will update the information to reflect the current EU Regulation 2024/1834 in the coming weeks.
