Filter fan units (FFUs) are powerful units consisting of a filter and a fan. They are mainly used in ceiling systems in cleanrooms, e.g., in chip factories, beverage filling or plastic injection molding plants, the pharmaceutical industry, or microstructure technology. Their task is to ensure consistently high air quality while precisely regulating temperature and humidity.

The fans are subject to correspondingly high requirements: They must ensure a high air exchange rate and generate sufficient pressure to overcome the resistance of the filters. In addition, they should be intelligently controllable, easy to network, and very quiet, as strict noise protection conditions often apply in cleanrooms.

ebm‑papst has optimized the RadiPac specifically for use in cleanrooms. It impresses in all areas with top ratings and is also extremely compact—ideal for the confined installation conditions in filter-fan-units.

MODBUS / 0-10V combination input for digital or analog control with MODBUS-RTU or potentiometer

For fan units with MODBUS/0–10V, the setpoint source can be changed from 0–10V (factory setting) to MODBUS-RTU. This series can be controlled with both an (analog) 0–10V signal and MODBUS (digital).

  • Speed control with potentiometer or any 0–10V source, e.g., laminar flow controller, possible
  • Remote query of any 0–10V sensor (e.g., pressure) connected to the analog 0–10V input of the fan
  • Speed setting via any MODBUS-RTU master

MODBUS / DCI auto-addressing function for cleanroom

Fans with MODBUS/DCI interface can be addressed via a 15V / 24VDC voltage signal (init pin on pin 8 of the RJ45 plug). Only the unit activated with the Init pin listens to messages sent to slave address 247 and accepts a new MODBUS address written to this address 247 by the master controller.

After a unit has been successfully addressed, its DC relay is switched on and the 15V / 24V init pin is forwarded to the next fan module in the chain.

This fan is now activated via the hardware signal (init pin) and addressing continues as described above.
