ebm‑papst environmental classes:
optimal moisture protection for every application

Depending on the medium being conveyed and the intended use, electrical devices must be protected to varying degrees against moisture and other external influences. Those who only look at the standard IP protection class may be in for a surprise, as the international standard does not distinguish between different industries or even specific applications. This means that it is difficult to reliably determine whether a product is suitable for use in a swimming pool, for example.

H0 to H4: more reliable by several classes

For this reason, ebm‑papst has developed a moisture protection concept with standardized test procedures that consider not only the product itself, but also the types of application. The result is the environmental classes H0 to H4, which characterize every ebm‑papst product.

Your advantage: the highest quality, reliability, and durability of our products for your specific application.

How we test:

  • Defined test cycle (by ebm‑papst) with varying loads (temperature/humidity/direct sprinkling)
  • Test specimen is under voltage
  • Test duration: with time lapse corresponding to typical service life, for environmental class H2: several months of continuous load
  • Evaluation criteria: Does the test specimen function properly under the test conditions?

Optimally protected radial fans for swimming pools and more

For applications with direct exposure to water, ebm‑papst has developed special RadiPacs with corrosion protection. They meet the strict ebm‑papst environmental class H2.

The fans are protected against:

  • Relative humidity of 100%
  • Persistent moisture
  • Very rapid temperature changes
  • Permanent condensation
  • External exposure to water, including snow and ice formation

Application examples:

  • Ventilation systems in swimming pools
  • Outdoor condensers and recoolers without rain protection
  • Outdoor heat pumps without rain protection

ebm‑papst RadiPac radial fans also offer extra protection for special challenges:

  • H2+S – Salt fog resistance:
In addition to the conditions of environmental class H2, the applications are exposed to increased salt fog exposure (720h).
  • H2+T – Transformers:
In addition to the conditions of environmental class H2, the cooling of large transformers is subject to increased salt spray exposure (720h) from the air.
  • H2+C – Cooling towers:
In addition to the conditions of environmental class H2, exposure to cleaning agents, demineralized water, biocides, and rust inhibitors occurs.
  • H2+A – Agriculture:
In addition to the conditions of environmental class H2, exposure to ammonia, cleaning agents, or disinfectants occurs.

In addition to the conditions of environmental class H2, exposure to ammonia, cleaning agents, or disinfectants occurs.
