Precise data Better decisions

Since our software is based on real measured values, the data you get with ebm-papst FanScout will always be absolutely reliable and, above all, extremely accurate. Not only is the performance of the individual fan components measured, but so is the fan as a complete system, in line with the wire-to-air principle (from the electrical hookup to the available air performance).
TÜV SÜD, a German technical service organization, also confirms that FanScout’s calculations are top class compared to real measurements. In a short time, not only can you find the best solution for your use case, you can also simulate various operating scenarios that take the fans’ operating points, operating times and space requirements into account to provide you with an estimate of annual energy consumption.
That’s why ebm-papst FanScout has shown that it is extremely user friendly.

To make the decision even easier for you, ebm-papst FanScout also takes life cycle costs into account: the purchase price and the operating and service costs.

From the application to the right fan

Selection based on an axial fan

The customer receives a customized list that only includes fans suitable for their requirements.

FanScout Piktogramme

The customer enters the operating point they want and receives a selection of suitable fans: They can select the fan best suited to their application in terms of efficiency, noise or the required installation space.

FanScout Piktogramme

The right fan has been found. Now the life cycle costs can be calculated.

For both centrifugal and axial fans, in the end a suitable and energy-efficient selection is what counts. That’s why it’s important to be able to select from all suitable fans. To ensure that the operating characteristics of the selected fan also apply in practice, the data used by ebm-papst FanScout are based on exact measured values – so you can be certain in your planning.

All the advantages at a glance

FanScout Piktogramme

  • Operating point can be positioned anywhere in the map
  • Dynamic display of operating data at the operating points
  • Comparison of different fan types
  • Display of operating and nominal data
  • Display of characteristic curves for conditions such as a constant efficiency level
  • Calculation of life cycle costs

How selecting a system
for multiple fans operating in parallel works – FanGrids

Selection of fans for a FanGrid combination

FanScout Piktogramme

In a personal discussion, the customer provides information about the high airflow application that they are planning and that has to be implemented as a FanGrid (fans operating in parallel) due to special conditions (length, redundancy, weight).

The customer receives a customized list that only includes fans suitable for their requirements.

The customer specifies the operating points and operating time required, and gets a selection of fan combinations sorted by the amount of annual energy consumption from low to high.

The right fan has been found. Now the life cycle costs can be calculated.

Energy costs are key to cost-effective operation, especially for systems with multiple fans operating in parallel, so ebm-papst FanScout now also includes a unique selection feature for FanGrids, which you can use to quickly choose the most energy-efficient fan combination from our product range.

All the advantages at a glance

FanScout Piktogramme
  • Select from as many as five different operating points
  • Restrict the permissible number of fans in a FanGrid
  • Specify the space available for the FanGrid
  • Incorporate redundancy requirements
  • Calculate and compare life cycle costs

Correct FanGrid design

1. Operating parameters

In the past, FanGrids were often designed based on the operating point with the highest air flow (maximum operating point). However, since this is seldom reached, with ebm-papst FanScout you can specify up to five different operating states (operating points). For each operating point, you provide the operating time in hours per year.

Other information includes the required static pressure increase of the fans and the overall system air flow, followed by the desired redundancy. The redundancy specifies how many fans can be switched off without falling below the required air flow. The remaining fans compensate for the difference by adjusting their speed.

Finally, you specify the amount of space available for installation of the fans.

2. Further information

ebm-papst FanScout also offers optional search parameters: the fan type and the number of fans installed.

3. Results list

Based on the parameters entered (operating points, desired level of redundancy, installation space, etc.), ebm-papst FanScout determines the most energy-efficient FanGrid combination. The list shows the performance and efficiency of annual energy consumption, sorted in ascending order. The most efficient combination is listed first and displayed in green.

4. Characteristic curve

The fan combination selected in the results list is displayed as a characteristic curve at maximum modulation. The specified operating points are also displayed, with their size representing the proportion of operating time.

5. Noise

For the selected fan combination, the sound level of the individual operating points is shown for a fan; you can specify whether at the intake or outlet side.

6. Performance and efficiency

Both the power consumption and the static efficiency at each operating point are shown in the diagrams so you can quickly get the overall picture.

7. Cost overview

The calculated operating points are supplemented by the operating time in years and the energy cost per kilowatt-hour, which are used to determine the basic operating costs. After you enter the costs for purchase, installation and service, the overall costs of the FanGrid over time are displayed: reliable information for better decisions.
