ebm‑papst Hungary is further expanding its sustainable energy infrastructure at its Vecsés site. The company is investing approximately 570,000 euros to expand its existing photovoltaic system by an additional 100 kW of capacity and install a battery storage system with a total capacity of 1,572 kWh. These measures strengthen the site’s supply reliability, increase the use of self-generated energy and improve the cost-effectiveness of the energy supply.
The new battery storage system consists of six battery blocks, each weighing around 2.5 tonnes. In combination with the expanded photovoltaic system, this setup enables a significantly higher level of self-sufficiency in renewable energy.
"The new battery system is a key component in making our site energy-efficient and future-proof. It reduces our dependence on external factors while strengthening our commitment to sustainability," says Sándor Egri, Head of the Facility and Maintenance Department.
Benefits of the new investment
A key benefit is the increased resilience of the plant. In the event of a power outage, production can continue for an additional three to four hours if the battery storage system is fully charged. Additionally, the system reduces dependence on volatile electricity prices and creates flexibility by storing self-generated energy.
Currently, the Vecsés site already covers an average of around 25 per cent of its annual electricity needs with its existing 800 kW photovoltaic system. With the expansion of PV capacity and the new battery storage solution, this figure is set to rise to around 45 percent. At the same time, an additional 400 MWh of electricity can be generated and used on site each year.
The project is also compelling from an economic perspective, as the investment will pay for itself in under 3.5 years. Furthermore, the installed infrastructure offers potential for future expansion into a scalable energy storage array.
By expanding its energy infrastructure, ebm‑papst Vecsés is demonstrating its commitment to providing a sustainable, economical and resource-efficient energy supply. The project shows how technological innovation, security of supply and sustainability can be successfully combined.
Róbert Radics, the managing director of ebm‑papst Hungary, emphasizes the importance of the project: "By expanding our energy infrastructure, we are investing in the future of our site. This aligns with our commitment to operating sustainably and taking long-term responsibility. Guided by our ESG principles, we create added value through innovative technologies, responsible environmental management, transparent corporate governance, and a corporate culture that prioritizes people. Our employees are our greatest strength. With their dedication and expertise, they drive the continuous development of our company."
