Fan Optimiser principle – the pressure feedback volumetric flow control system

In a pressure feedback volumetric flow control system the damper positions of the VAV controllers are detected by a field bus, MP Bus, LON, Modbus, KNX®, etc. and used as the trigger for energy-efficient control of the stepless-controlled EC fans. This procedure is called “Fan Optimiser function or principle”.

For the Fan Optimiser principle the damper position of the system is used and evaluated to generate the setpoint for the EC fans. Through this the fans are brought down to the approximate optimum system operating point (setpoint O) until most of the dampers are in the optimum operating range. Closing dampers means falling demand / too high pressure and opening dampers mean rising demand / too low pressure: EC fans are powered up or down accordingly following the ventilation system's characteristic curve.

The consequences and benefits:
- Reduced pressure loss in air duct system
- Lower pressure in the air duct system
- Less flow noise and
- A much lower energy consumption of the fans!

Fan Optimiser COU24-A-MP

Application: smaller to medium MP-Bus systems.

Belimo’s Fan Optimiser COU24A-MP makes an operational control solution available for smaller, simple systems. Up to 8 VAV-Compact controllers can be connected with a COU24-A-MP using the MP-Bus. The system can be extended with another COU24-A-MP using a 2-wire line. GreenTech EC fan is activated with a 0…10 V signal.

The installed Belimo VAV Compact controllers are connected to the DDC controller using the corresponding field bus interface. The GreenTech EC fan is activated through a 0…10 V signal.

MODBUS-RTU Controller with Fan Optimiser function

DDC application with integrated Fan Optimiser function. The Fan Optimiser function is programmed using the pre-defined application library or by the system integrator. The VAV-Compact controller LMV-D3-MOD from Belimo and the GreenTech EC fan are connected with the DDC controller via MODBUS-RTU.
