First international award for Energy Scouts in Great Britain

The “Energy Scouts” trainee project initiated by ebm-papst won the Automotive Supply Chain Global Awards in the “Best Trainee Project” category in November 2015. After many German awards, this was the first international award for the project involving young trainees from fan specialist ebm-papst.

“This project demonstrates that clearly focused environmental awareness can improve competitiveness for an organization whilst supporting the responsible development of our next generation”, commented the judging panel.

Eva-Maria Wolfart, trainee and Energy Scout at ebm-papst, accepted the award in London in the name of all energy scouts. “We Energy Scouts are proud to help save energy and reduce electricity costs with our dedication, so we’re very pleased about this award, which will help make the successful Energy Scouts project better known internationally. Global energy consumption needs to be reduced to conserve existing natural resources, because the population is going to keep growing and conflicts over resources will intensify.”

ebm-papst, the world market leader in ventilation and drive engineering, launched the Energy Scouts project in 2010. Since then young trainees have been looking for and independently repairing energy leaks at the company, which has saved around one million euros in energy costs. In 2014, ebm-papst presented the Energy Scout idea to the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), which recommended the project to its local chapters. Since then, 53 chapters have trained around 1,500 energy scouts throughout Germany. In 2015, a delegation of energy scouts traveled to the United States to present their project to the United Nations Environment Program, the German-American Chamber of Commerce, various businesses and a technical high school.
