Award-winning AxiTop diffuser

This year the association of European manufacturers of components for refrigeration and air-conditioning technology (ASERCOM) presented the "ASERCOM Energy Efficiency Award" twice. Due to the diversity of the contest entries, the jury decided for the first time–unanimously, no less–that two awards should be presented.

The two German winners ebm-papst Mulfingen and Güntner (based in Fürstenfeldbruck) were distinguished for their innovative concepts in the field of refrigeration and air-conditioning technology.

The highly regarded award was presented to the winners on 8 October 2012 as part of the symposium hosted by ASERCOM and EPEE. This opening event traditionally takes place on the eve before the Chillventa trade fair, the world's leading trade fair in the refrigeration and air-conditioning industry.

The international jury placed particular value on energy efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions. Additional criteria for granting the award are compliance with EU directives and laws (such as ErP directives) as well as technical and economical feasibility. In his laudatory address, jury member Prof. Michael Arnemann of the University of Applied Sciences in Karlsruhe paid particular tribute to aerodynamic optimisation by means of the AxiTop diffuser. In air-cooled heat exchanger applications, the diffuser is placed downstream of an axial fan and reduces the noise emission and exit losses using the principle of a reversed nozzle. The unique combination of an internal and external diffuser leads to substantial noise reduction and increased efficiency, which convinced the jury.

Using the 250-mm tall AxiTop diffuser, it is possible to reduce the operating noise level by 7.2 dB(A) with the same connected load as well as to achieve energy consumption savings of up to 27%. At the same time, a fan equipped like this can also generate up to a 9% higher flow rate, while the noise emission is reduced by approx. 4.9 dB(A). Another advantage is that it can be retrofitted on existing installations without redesigning the customer's application.

Alongside other energy saving products for refrigeration and air-conditioning technology, the AxiTop will be presented as a highlight at the ebm-papst booth at the Chillventa trade fair in Hall 7, Booth 7-414 from 9 to 11 October in Nuremberg. Initial customers are showing off the product at the trade fair as a form of positive feedback.
