Eleven products – including the EC HyBlade axial fan series by ebm-papst – have been distinguished with the award, endowed with a total of 90,000 EUR.

Minister of the Environment Gönner praised the innovative strength of companies in Baden-Wuerttemberg in the area of environmental protection. The submitted products were an impressive demonstration that these companies play a pioneering Europe-wide role in climate and environmental protection and the conservation of natural resources. The prizes were awarded in four categories: "Energy efficiency", "Material efficiency", "Emission reduction, treatment and separation" and "Process measuring and control technology".

"ebm-papst Mulfingen GmbH & Co KG has achieved second place in the 'Energy efficiency' category with its 'EC HyBlade axial fans' product," said Minister Gönner enthusiastically. She went on to say that this product will certainly be used in many ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration systems in the future. The outstanding feature of these fans is the use of a new hybrid material – a combination of plastic and metal – which makes it light in weight and enables resource conservation in manufacturing. "New standards have been set in terms of energy efficiency", says the Minister of the Environment. As she relates, this allows energy savings of 30 to 70 percent at a service life of over 40,000 hours. "This is a product that protects our environment and resources through its energy efficiency and durability", explains Gönner.

"The Environmental Technology Award 2009 allows us to recognise the excellent record companies in Baden-Wuerttemberg have when it comes to developing modern, environmental technology and environmentally friendly products and make it known to the general public", says Minister of the Environment Gönner. The companies will now be able to advertise and highlight the extraordinary environmental performance of their products that have been nominated and distinguished by the "Baden-Wuerttemberg Environmental Technology Award 2009" by using its new signet.

"Modern environmental technology is the key to effective climate protection and sustainable economic growth", emphasises Minister of the Environment Gönner. "Environmental technology has been least affected by the current economic downturn and can pave the way out of the crisis. Protecting the environment and our climate and creating an economic upturn must go hand in hand," she adds. Companies in Baden-Wuerttemberg with eco-friendly products have already had a turnover of approx. 3.66 billion EUR, with recent growth rates in the double digits.
