Jochen Homann, State Secretary in the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, presented the first prize, endowed with 15,000 EUR, to the fan specialist ebm-papst Mulfingen GmbH & Co. KG. Brauerei Bosch GmbH & Co. KG received the second prize. The third prize was given to the chemical business sector of Evonik Industries AG.

With their efficiency projects, all three companies were able to achieve above-average cost savings in the production process. The "Energy Efficiency Award", endowed with a total of 30,000 EUR, was offered as part of the Initiative EnergieEffizienz of the Deutschen Energie-Agentur GmbH (dena – the German Energy Agency) in co-operation with Deutsche Messe AG and presented at the WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE of the HANNOVER MESSE trade fair.

"These distinguished companies are leading the way with a good example. With investments in energy efficiency, they are setting the course for the growth of the future," emphasised Stephan Kohler, dena's Managing Director, at the awards ceremony.

At its new plant in Mulfingen-Hollenbach, ebm-papst implemented a solution that covers the entire heat requirement of the plant premises using existing heat loads. The premises are heated entirely using the heat given off from production. In selecting the components, attention was given to choosing state-of-the-art, energy-efficient technologies.

In this way, ebm-papst was able to reduce the energy costs of the plant for heating, ventilation and cooling by 91 percent, and thus by 87,000 EUR per year. The project can be transferred very easily to other producing companies with large internal heat loads in their factory buildings.

"It is very important to view the topic of energy efficiency holistically," remarked Markus Mettler, Manager of Operations, Maintenance and Building at ebm-papst during the awards ceremony. "We are constantly busy opening up new potential energy savings, not only with our particularly efficient fans and motors, but also in production and infrastructure," Mettler continued. ebm-papst will use the award money for two planned energy efficiency projects in the field of waste-heat utilisation.
