The SCIP-Express online platform by ebm-papst simplifies mandatory reporting

Reporting to ECHA for substances of very high concern

Since January 5, 2021, it is mandatory to submit information on articles containing substances of very high concern to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). The SCIP database is available for this purpose. ebm-papst neo has developed the SCIP-Express platform for reporting to ECHA, making the process much easier for responsible pollutant experts.

SCIP stands for “Substances of Concern In articles as such or in complex objects (Products)” - it is a database of substances of very high concern in products and was developed by the European Chemicals Agency ECHA based on the Waste Framework Directive. The SCIP database is designed to reduce waste that contains hazardous substances as well as to encourage the use of non-hazardous substances. It is also intended to facilitate monitoring of the use of hazardous substances across the entire lifecycle of articles, as well as the introduction of suitable disposal measures.

Mandatory SCIP reporting for almost all articles in the EU

All articles offered in the EU that contain substances of very high concern according to the Candidate List in a concentration of more than 0.1% by mass must be reported. This applies to almost all articles with a certain degree of complexity – and thus to most manufacturers, importers, retailers, and assembly companies in the EU, and to other actors in the supply chain bringing articles to the EU market.

Simple solution from ebm-papst: SCIP-Express

As the world's leading manufacturer of fans and motors, ebm-papst itself is subject to mandatory SCIP reporting. To meet this requirement as efficiently as possible, ebm-papst neo has developed the SCIP-Express platform that controls the automated exchange of information with the SCIP database. The software is subject to a charge and is designed as an online platform, therefore does not require any installation or implementation steps such as data migration, training or similar. The only requirement is a previous ECHA registration, but this can also be done using SCIP-Express. An Excel file is used to import and export data. The software from ebm-papst is therefore fully designed for reporting in the ECHA cloud and generating the SCIP numbers.

ebm-papst SCIP-Express is aimed specifically at pollutant experts in medium-sized companies and is available now. For more information, go to www.ebmpapst.com/scipexpress.
